It’s the cinco month of Hoyts life and he is going strong.
We started a few things this month: Hoyt is back in the crib per Drs orders (sort of), he has found those feets, he loves to motor boat with his mouth, his favorite word is “hey” and we started FOOD!
Getting Hoyt back in the crib was slightly more challenging than I realized it would be. We had broken the swaddle in the rock n play but when he got back to the crib, well he would just wake up all the time! So we restarted the swaddle and things progressed well from there. He has had some great great nights. Whooo hoo. There are still nights where he wakes up and after about five minutes of fighting it out I have to go help him soothe back down. I’m trying to follow the rules of him learning on his own by not picking him up and not relying on the passy too much. It’s just going to take a while. He is not ready and he is just a thirteen pound baby! (You will note below…this changed by the last day of month 5!)
His first taste of rice cereal was pretty typical. Hoyt definitely thought what is this stuff? But in three short days he was eating a ramikin at breakfast and dinner. I feel like he was starved all these months by how much food he packs down. We wiped out a container of rice cereal in two weeks! After the start of rice cereal we moved on to fruit. He wasn’t so sure of fruit either that first day, but boy he likes it now! I made a small mistake and tried too many fruits at once or back to back days. Hoyt got a rash but I figured out it was not the food but the baby shampoo was slightly different. So we switched back. Bless his skin. It is just like mine and Welsh’s.
Have I mentioned Hoyt can laugh and giggle? It’s tremendously cute. Plus he has mastered the front to back roll. He is actively working on his side to side movement and I’m sure before long he will be on his stomach. He loves to sleep on his side and if he just happens to go to his stomach (only has done this at child care) he can sleep for three hours for nap. Talk about a nap champion!
Lastly, Hoyt started to wake up at all hours of the night by then end of 5 months, so just one day shy we started the cry it out method. The first night it took him 50 minutes and about four check-ins from mom. However, it has been fairly smooth sailing from there. He has woken up one night and took 90 minutes to settle down, but other than that he is a self soothing champion too!
Hightlights from 5 months:
- I like to nibble on my foots
- I can laugh, giggle and coo. Please talk to me so I can talk to you!
- I may have been starving all these months because I pack down food (just like Welsh did)
- Let me roll (from front to back) with it
- PS – I met the Real Hoyt too!
